This guide walks you through creating your first client, show, and episode in preroll.io. By the end, you'll have a working production pipeline ready for real work.

Time required: ~5 minutes

Step 1: Create Your Account

  1. Go to preroll.io and click Get Started.
  2. Sign up with your email (magic link) or Google account.
  3. preroll.io automatically creates your organization — this is your workspace where all data lives.

All new accounts get a 7-day Studio trial with full access to every feature, including multi-user, white-label, and reporting.

Step 2: Create Your First Client

Clients represent the people or companies you produce podcasts for.

  1. From the dashboard, click New Client (or navigate to Clients in the sidebar).
  2. Fill in the basics:
    • Name — the client's name or company
    • Email — their contact email
    • Company — optional, useful for agency work
  3. Click Create Client.

You can add more details later — meeting notes, service terms, company info — but a name and email are enough to start.

Step 3: Create a Show

Shows belong to a client and represent an individual podcast series.

  1. Open your new client's page.
  2. Click New Show.
  3. Fill in:
    • Name — the podcast title
    • Format — interview, solo, narrative, etc.
    • Schedule — weekly, biweekly, etc.
  4. Click Create Show.

preroll.io creates a default pipeline for your show:

Planning → Recording → Editing → Review → Approved → Published

You can customize these stages later from the show's settings.

Step 4: Add an Episode

Episodes are the core unit of work in preroll.io. Each one moves through your show's pipeline stages.

  1. Open the show you just created.
  2. Click New Episode (or use the + button on the kanban board).
  3. Enter:
    • Title — the episode title
    • Episode number — auto-incremented if left blank
    • Description — optional notes or show notes
  4. Click Create Episode.

Your episode appears in the first pipeline stage (Planning). Drag it across the board as work progresses, or click into it to update details, upload assets, and manage deliverables.

Step 5: Invite a Team Member (Studio Plan)

If you're on the Studio plan (or during your trial), you can add team members to your organization.

  1. Go to SettingsTeam.
  2. Click Invite Member.
  3. Enter their email and select a role:
    • Admin — full access, can manage billing and team
    • Member — can manage clients, shows, and episodes
  4. Click Send Invite.

They'll receive a magic link email to join your organization.

Team members are a Studio plan feature. After your trial ends, you'll need to upgrade to Studio ($79/month) to keep multi-user access.
