Templates

Define episode templates per show to standardize creation and save time on repetitive setup.

Open with AI:ClaudeChatGPT

Episode templates let you define a reusable starting point for new episodes. Each show can have a template that pre-populates fields when you create an episode, ensuring consistency and saving time on repetitive data entry.

What Gets Templated

A template can define defaults for:

FieldDescription
DescriptionStandard episode description text or structure
Show notesPre-built show notes template with sections
Starting stageWhich pipeline stage new episodes begin in
TagsDefault tags automatically applied
NotesInternal production notes that apply to every episode

How Templates Work

Auto-Apply on Creation

When you create a new episode for a show that has a template:

  1. Click New Episode
  2. Select the show
  3. Template fields are automatically populated
  4. Edit any pre-filled values as needed
  5. Click Create

The template values are suggestions — you can override any field before or after creation.

Template Inheritance

Templates are set at the show level. Every episode created under that show inherits the template values. This means:

  • All episodes in a show start with the same structure
  • You maintain consistency without manual copying
  • New team members follow the established format automatically

Creating a Template

  1. Navigate to the show's Settings tab
  2. Click Episode Template
  3. Fill in the template fields
  4. Click Save Template

Description Template

Write a default description that applies to most episodes. Use this for:

  • Standard opening/closing text
  • Recurring links (website, social media, sponsor)
  • SEO-optimized boilerplate

Example:

[Episode Title] - [Show Name]

[Episode-specific description goes here]

Links mentioned in this episode:

Show Notes Template

Structure your show notes with predefined sections:

## Summary
[Brief episode summary]

## Key Topics
- Topic 1
- Topic 2
- Topic 3

## Guest Bio
[Guest name and background]

## Resources & Links
- [Resource 1]
- [Resource 2]

## Timestamps
- 00:00 - Intro
- [xx:xx] - [Topic]
- [xx:xx] - [Topic]

## Credits
Hosted by [Host Name]
Produced by [Producer Name]
Music by [Artist]

Default Tags

Select tags that should be applied to every new episode in this show:

  • Useful for show-specific tags (e.g., the show name as a tag)
  • Content type tags if the show always produces the same format
  • Client tags for quick filtering

Template Management

Editing a Template

  1. Go to the show's Settings > Episode Template
  2. Modify any fields
  3. Click Save

Changes only affect future episodes. Existing episodes are not retroactively updated.

Removing a Template

  1. Go to the show's Settings > Episode Template
  2. Click Clear Template
  3. Confirm

New episodes will be created with blank fields (except for required fields).

Previewing a Template

Before saving, you can preview what a new episode would look like with the template applied. This helps ensure the formatting and content look correct.

Multiple Shows, Multiple Templates

Each show has its own independent template. This is intentional:

  • An interview show might have a guest bio section
  • A news show might have a "stories covered" section
  • A narrative show might have chapter-based notes
  • A solo show might be minimal with just links

Templates and Team Workflows

For Studio plan organizations with multiple team members:

  • Templates ensure everyone creates episodes the same way
  • New team members don't need to ask "what format do we use?"
  • Template changes propagate to all team members immediately
  • Only owners and admins can edit show templates

Tips

  • Start with structure, not content — Use placeholders like [Episode-specific description] so it's clear what to fill in
  • Include recurring links — Anything that appears in every episode description should be in the template
  • Use the notes field — Add internal reminders ("Remember to ask for the guest's preferred link")
  • Review templates quarterly — Update as your show evolves
  • Keep it flexible — Templates should save time, not constrain creativity
